Industrial Engineering Intern (Graduate)

Essential Duties

  • Support continuous improvement projects in Operations and Supply Chain, including layouts, product flow, materials management.
  • Assist in developing solutions to non-routine problems of intermediate complexity; interpret, executes, and recommends modifications to operating policies and assist with process validation.
  • Develop metrics, perform time and motion studies, collect data, analyze processes, and develop standard work.
  • Implement process changes in regulated environment, while maintaining a constant state of compliance and following company policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with co-workers to obtain information, facilitate decisions and implementation.
  • Analyze data and produce reports.
  • Assist in training and process deployment.

Education:

Completed Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or Operations Research.

  • Could be pursuing a Master's degree in engineering, physical science, or life science discipline.


Experience:

  • No prior experience required. Prior internship experience in manufacturing setting strongly preferred.

Skills:

  • Expanded knowledge of engineering processes acquired through coursework and internships.
  • Strong knowledge of process simulation/modeling tools (ProModel).
  • Basic knowledge of Lean tools (VSM, Time Studies, 5S, Kanbans, Layout) and statistics.
  • A self-starter drive. Ability to ask questions, identify waste, and generate ideas. Obsession with arriving to an accurate and clear answer.
  • Ability to apply engineering concepts to problem solving, decision making, solution design and implementation.
  • Demonstrated presentation and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated planning and discipline in completing assignments on-time and with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, with advanced Excel capabilities. Minitab preferred.

Other Requirements

  • This is a semester-long internship, from early August to the end of December 2019.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer.
  • Requires travel based on business needs.

Physical Requirements

  • General Labor Environment requirements include: use of personal protective equipment, reading, speaking, hearing, walking, bending, standing, stretching/reaching, hand/finger dexterity, and occasional lifting, up to 50 pounds, or transporting up to 500 pounds via carts or mechanized equipment.
