We are currently seeking a Web Developer Student Intern to work in our Communications Office.


The Communications Office Technical Student Intern will provide critical support for the laboratory's main website, jlab.org, to include working with departments to update, consolidate and move webpages to the supported Drupal content management system to further improve functionality, services, and analytic analysis as outline in the Lab Agenda.

This position works with the Webmaster to provide end-user computing support and front-end website management. The position involves updating, consolidating and moving webpages for lab divisions to the supported Drupal content management system. This will require meeting with different division and departments to assess their webpage development needs and provide assistance with accomplishing those needs across the laboratory. The Student Intern is expected to complete and document resolution of problem reports, and maintain on-line documentation.



The ideal candidate will have an excellent working knowledge of Content Management Systems - Drupal (version 7 preferred), HTML (hyper text mark-up language), CSS (cascading style sheets), and Javascript, with knowledge of image manipulation (re-size, crop, minor photo editing) in Photoshop or Gimp highly desired. This candidate must make good use of written and verbal instructions, understand and follow established Computing policies, and have excellent communication skills both in writing and in speech. The candidate must have the ability to navigate servers and large folder structures cross-browser / cross-platform and possess development understanding of 508 compliance relating to web accessibility. Demonstrated experience in computer support is considered a plus in the evaluation of candidates.

Applicant must be enrolled in a local university as a full-time college student with a GPA of 2.5 or better. Enrollment in a Computer-related major preferred. Proof of full-time status and copies of transcripts are required (unofficial copies are acceptable). Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen.

In addition, the candidate must available to work a minimum of 18 hours per week, with the maximum being 20 hours per week during school sessions, and 40 hours per week between school sessions (spring break, summer break, and winter break).
