Do you want to build a satisfying long-term career at a company recognized for its operational excellence, commitment to sustainability and community involvement?
When you join Xcel Energy you’re with one of the best; a place where you can become your best. Where you can develop your talents, skills, and knowledge in a dynamic industry that literally powers the economy in the eight Western and Midwestern states where we operate.
The energy business is changing, and you can be a part of shaping our future. With nearly half our workforce eligible to retire over the next decade, Xcel Energy will have an unprecedented number of exciting opportunities for you to learn and grow. Whether you like working outside, in a plant with big equipment, in a team-based office environment, or want to get out and help customers solve problems on location, we invite you to explore a challenging and rewarding career with Xcel Energy.
If you decide to pursue a career with Xcel Energy, you should know that we try our best to make sure you’ll be a good fit. For many positions, we ask qualified applicants to take pre-hire behavioral assessments. For select technical positions, we also ask applicants to take an employment test developed by the Edison Electric Institute (EEI).
Here’s how it works: Once you have applied for a job that requires either of these assessments, your application will be reviewed by a recruiter. If selected, you’ll receive an email invitation with instructions on how to proceed. This is the first step of our hiring process for these positions; don’t blow it off!
Wouldn’t it be reassuring to know that your employer’s top priority is sending you home injury-free every night?
The sobering fact is, when you’re in the business of delivering electricity and natural gas to millions of homes and businesses, there just isn’t much margin for error. At Xcel Energy, you will find that safety is our No. 1 core value: for you, your coworkers and our customers.
If you’re part of our team, we will insist that you follow proper safety procedures at all times, no exception. We know that a moment’s inattention or a shortcut can change a life forever, or even end it. Our employees know that if they see something that doesn’t look quite right, they have not just the ability, but the responsibility to call a halt at any time, no questions asked, until it’s safe to proceed.
At Xcel Energy, we care about you and we want you to be safe. Learn more about Xcel Energy's commitment to public safety and Drug-and Alcohol-Free Workplace policy.
Do you want to join a company that’s actively engaged in making your community a better place to live?
As an employee at Xcel Energy you’ll receive 40 hours of paid volunteer time off every year. You can pack snacks for hungry school kids, build Habitat for Humanity houses, clean up parks, mentor a student or deliver meals to shut-ins. What’s more, our Dollars for Doing program matches up to 100 hours of your off-hours volunteer time at $10 per hour, so the qualifying non-profits you support get twice the benefit.
The Xcel Energy Foundation also matches employee and retiree donations to eligible nonprofit organizations dollar-for-dollar, up to $750 per employee per year. Donations to higher education institutions are matched up to $2,000 per employee per year.
We encourage our employees and retirees to apply for small grants of up to $1,000 for community service projects of their choosing. If you have an idea, we want to hear it.
And we can’t help bragging about the generous support our employees and retirees give to 170 United Way charities across the country. Their gifts, along with a dollar-for-dollar match from the Xcel Energy Foundation, provide millions of dollars that make a real difference for neighbors in need.

Do you want to work for a company that makes you proud? Does it appeal to you to join a company whose values reflect your own?
If you believe strongly in protecting the environment and expanding renewable energy, you’ll be comfortable here. We go out of our way to help our customers conserve energy and save money. We make smart investments to ensure that our plants and facilities go beyond mere compliance with environmental regulations. Our Windsource® program is one of the largest voluntary green power programs in the U.S. based on customer participation, and Xcel Energy has been the No.1 wind energy provider in the nation for 10 years running. We rank 7th in solar and we’re always looking for the right opportunities to expand our efforts.
At Xcel Energy you’ll be part of a team that’s been recognized nationally for its prompt, safe and efficient emergency response. Our customers appreciate our efforts to restore their power quickly when storms or floods sweep through and disrupt their service. We’ve been keeping the lights on and homes warm for more than 100 years, and we’re proud of the way we do it.
At Xcel Energy you’ll find a strongly ethical corporate culture. If you join our team, you will be treated with fairness and respect, and challenged to achieve your potential on a team dedicated to serving our customers.

Do you want a work environment where your contributions are recognized and rewarded?
At Xcel Energy you’ll receive a market-competitive total rewards package that includes a lot more than just a paycheck: health care coverage and wellness plans, dental and eye care coverage, a 401(k) plan with a company match contribution, and (for most employees) a fully-paid pension, paid time off, and life and disability insurance. We want you and your family to have peace of mind when it comes to your physical and financial well-being.
We believe in rewarding high performers for their extra contributions that result in our mutual success. Because of this, many of our employees are recognized for their accomplishments with incentive pay. Bargaining-unit employees are compensated according to union contracts that vary by region.
At Xcel Energy we believe you shouldn’t have to move on to move into a new career opportunity. Nearly 50 percent of our workforce is eligible to retire over the next decade, so we are eager to identify candidates who will be ready to move up into leadership positions or into new areas, and we are committed to developing programs that will help us build strong leaders from within. If you are more motivated by new experiences than by moving up the ladder, the variety of positions we have available allows for opportunities to learn and grow. Either way, we think this is a great place for you to build a long-term career as part of our team.
Do you want to work with people who welcome and value you, a place where one of our core values is to treat all people with respect?
At Xcel Energy we work to promote an inclusive culture that benefits from the diversity of our employees. To us, diversity is not just a reflection of race or ethnicity. We know that a lot things go into making you you: your education, background, age, gender, sexual orientation, native language, geographic allegiance, and personality all equip you to make a distinctive contribution to our team. We value the richness of our employees’ experiences and encourage them to celebrate the things that make them unique. We have a long history as an Equal Opportunity employer.
Our employees have formed a number of Business Resource Groups (BRGs), which provide a safe place to exchange ideas, perform community outreach and achieve personal and professional growth. Our Council for Diversity and Inclusion, composed of leaders from each of the BRGs, promotes collaboration between the BRGs. Learn more about the BRGs that are active at Xcel Energy today.
