Founded in 1858, the same year that Minnesota became a state, Shattuck-St. Mary’s School has built its reputation for excellence on a foundation of history, tradition and exceptional academics. Our 417 students in grades 6-12 come from 34 states and 22 countries to pursue a rigorous college preparatory curriculum and focused development in athletics and the arts. Through this opportunity, which we call the “Experience,” students at SSM learn, grow, thrive and often find the unexpected in themselves.

Our campus is bursting with initiative, growth and possibility. Our brand-new sports complex is home to our hockey program along with new soccer and figure skating programs. The complex’s second sheet of ice allows our student-athletes more flexibility in scheduling classes and practices. In the remodeled performing arts wing, choral groups benefit from a private rehearsal hall, and students have easy access to practice rooms and the School’s music library. We have launched an exciting Pre-Conservatory Strings program that allows students to pursue their music at a very high level on our campus while also taking weekly classes from master teachers in the Twin Cities. And, our 250-acre campus is home to a unique climbing tower and high ropes course that offer leadership opportunities to both our school community and outside groups.

As part of our commitment to high-level academics, a newly enhanced Honors Program provides accelerated courses of study and exciting, customized academic pursuits to motivated and gifted students who seek greater academic challenges. In addition, we have expanded our world language offerings to include Mandarin Chinese in grades 6-12. Our science curriculum now offers robotics at both the middle and high school levels. From our state-of-the-art technology, including a wireless campus, to our new initiatives in academics, athletics and the arts, we combine tradition with opportunity for an unforgettable school experience.
