Formed in 2015, the SpartanNash Foundation provides grants to nonprofit partners in the communities we serve. In 2017, we granted more than $1.5 million to community nonprofit organizations. Outreach includes providing hunger relief, securing shelter and supporting our military heroes. We also are deeply committed to continuing our 34-year partnership with Special Olympics. To date, we have donated nearly $9.7 million and thousands of volunteer hours to Special Olympics in addition to providing meals for Summer Games volunteers.
Headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, we have corporate offices in Minneapolis, Indianapolis and Norfolk, Virginia. We operate 140 corporate-owned retail stores in eight states, operate 19 distribution centers and serve customers in 50 states; as well as premier fresh produce distribution and fresh food processing. In addition to the U.S., our military operations serve the District of Columbia, Europe, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Bahrain, Djibouti and Egypt.
