Job Description
I.             POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing therapy for clients and their families, coordinating necessary client team meetings, writing treatment plans and reports as well as maintaining other required documentation, and communicating with program staff, parents, and referral sources regarding clients’ needs when appropriate.

II.            EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
                A typical background for the person who can fulfill the duties of this position is as follows:
 
  1. Master’s degree in psychology, social work, or a related human services field.
  2. Experience in working with emotionally and behaviorally adolescents and their families.
  3. The ability to relate to clients, co-workers, and the public.
  4. Applicant must be 21 years of age.
 
III.           REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  4. Ability to provide visual and auditory supervision to clients.

  7. Regularly attend scheduled shifts, be punctual for scheduled shifts and meetings.
  8. Obtain MHP supervision on a weekly basis.
  9. Effectively monitor safety and demonstrate group management skills and effectively deescalate potentially chaotic or volatile situations.
  10. Exercise tact, discretion, and judgment in working with a variety of people.
  11. Stay calm and emotionally available in an environment serving emotionally disturbed youth.
  12. Open to feedback and supervision.
 
IV.          OTHER REQUIREMENTS
 
  1. Must pass an Applicant Background Study through Minnesota Dept. of Human Services.
  2. Must have a valid driver’s license and must meet our insurance company’s criteria to drive.
  3. Must be in compliance with required agency staff development training by dates listed in Employee Policy Handbook.
 
V.            SUPERVISION RECEIVED
 
  1. Directly responsible to the Clinical Supervisor.
  2. Other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor or Executive Director.
 
VI.          DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  1. Serve as individual therapist for all assigned clients.
  2. Serve as group therapist for all assigned clients.
  3. Serve as family therapist for all assigned clients and their families.
  4. Share responsibility with the Unit Coordinator for the overall treatment service delivery for all clients.
  5. Complete 14/30-Day Evaluations on assigned clients at admission and additional assessments as indicated.
  6. Be available as a resource to program staff.
  7. Provide direction to ensure individual treatment plans address the assessed significant issues of clients.
  8. Coordinate the completion of progress reviews and discharge summaries.
  9. Demonstrate leadership responsibility in the coordination of scheduled client conferences (intake evaluations, monthly progress reviews, discharges, team meetings, client reviews, and administrative reviews).
  10. Provide leadership for Family Days.
  11. Complete Mental Health Professional responsibilities when assigned.
  12. Provide consultation to staff and outside agency personnel.
  13. Complete timely and professionally written reports.
  14. Function effectively within the organizational structure of the Leo A. Hoffmann Center.
  15. Actively participate in the supervisory process.
  16. Meet all required staff development criteria.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor, or Executive Director.
  18. Directly responsible to the Clinical Supervisor.
