About the role

As the Traffic Control Director (TCD), you will be responsible for the safe, environmentally sound and efficient operation of the tipping building for managing deliveries, and the ash building as related to loading outbound ash and metal shipments. The TCD interacts with the delivery drivers to safely and quickly position the trucks for unloading on the tipping floor or directly to the pit.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensures delivery drivers have required PPE.

  • Directs incoming waste trucks to appropriate dumping location in the tipping building.

  • Performs waste screenings looking for non-processible material.

  • Interacts with other TCD's and crane operators to manage the unloading considering the goal of 20 minute truck turnaround time.

  • Maintains the tipping floor in a safe, professional & clean appearance.

  • Verifies lights, piping, and "life safety equipment" in the work area. Notifies supervisor of concerns.

  • Inspects and operates a front-end loader (including cleaning, servicing, fueling & greasing) and other equipment as qualified and assigned.

  • Performs additional tasks as directed by the Shift Supervisor, or designee.

Position Requirements & Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred.

  • Covanta offers GED Works - a fully funded program for employees to achieve their GED.

  • Must successfully complete Operator Qualification Package within 90 days of employment.

Physical Demands of the Role:
  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb

  • Ability to lift/carry 50lbs

  • Qualify to wear a full-face respirator

  • Consistently work in various weather conditions

Shift:
  • Four-week rotation on first and second shift
