SUMMARY:
We are currently seeking a Clinical Surgery Coordinator to join our CSC GI and Liver Clinic team. This full-time role will primarily work on-site (SHIFT: Days).

Purpose of this position: Responsible for organizing and communicating all aspects of a patients' surgical procedure

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinates surgical procedures for patients with appropriate provider, time, and location
  • Coordinates and schedules pre and post op appointments for patients per procedural guidelines
  • Ensures and coordinates necessary tests and imaging are completed and obtained both pre-procedure and post-procedure
  • Confirms with vendors that all necessary equipment for procedures is available and onsite
  • Documents and ensures the clinical notes and surgical instructions are entered into Epic
  • Verifies accurate insurance information and partners with the prior-authorization team to determine if prior-authorization requirements
  • Communicates prior-authorization process, requirements, and timeline to patients if applicable
  • Gathers medical records, CPT Codes, Imaging, and supporting documents required for the prior-authorization process
  • Obtains and scans surgical consent forms
  • Has an extensive knowledge of procedural guidelines for the surgical practice supported
  • Frequent communication with surgeons and OR scheduling team to effectively coordinate patient care
  • Provides accurate, detailed, and timely information to patients regarding test preparations, surgery date, arrival time, and any other directional information needed
  • Responds to patient questions appropriately and timely
  • Ensures patients have proper medical clearance and pre-surgical testing as needed
  • Completes pre-procedure phone calls and confirms appointment times with patients
  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that promotes patient safety
  • Assists other members of the department as needed
  • Collects pre-payments for surgical procedures if applicable
  • Coordinates patient transportation if needed
  • Discharge care coordination if needed
  • Other administrative and clerical duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Three (3) years of clerical experience in a clinical or surgical practice

  • An approved equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills. Familiar with Excel, Word
  • Strong organizational and customer service skills
  • Must be highly skilled in verbal communication, problem solving, prioritization, and organization
  • Knowledge of HIPAA/Confidentiality
  • Basic health insurance knowledge
  • Basic knowledge of CPT/DX codes
  • Medical Terminology
